White Plains, N.Y., June 10, 2008 -- IAC Consumer Applications & Portals, Inc. (IAC CAP), today announced expanded retail efforts to license their premiere Smiley Central emoticon characters by signing agreements with 11 licensees in 10 product categories. Smiley Central emoticons will soon be featured on a wide array of products -- including t-shirts, boxer shorts, purses, marshmallow treats, hospital scrubs, stationery and more -- to be sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America and throughout Europe beginning this summer. In the U.S., Smiley Central pajamas, backpacks, messenger bags, theme books, socks, stationery, pencil sharpeners and other items will be sold at mass, specialty, mid-tier and regional retail chains such as TJ Maxx, Wal-Mart, Marshalls, Kohl’s and Kmart, among others. Internationally, Smiley Central emoticons will be featured on packaged food products in Mexico, and on gummies, marshmallows, and hard and soft candies in Guatemala. Countries in the European Union meanwhile will carry a wide variety of adult and kids apparel and gear including t-shirts, sweatshirts, sandals, mobile phone accessories, umbrellas and gloves. "We did some limited licensing in 2007, but after seeing such high demand we’ve decided to expand our retail presence and bring the world-famous Smiley Central characters to even more consumers across the globe," said Mike Primiani, SVP Strategic Partnerships & Product Operations, IAC CAP.
